Terms of Service

Effective 21 August 2026

Acceptance

whilom is made by an independent Australian developer. By downloading, installing, or using the whilom app, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

The service

whilom generates audio episodes — short spoken documentaries — from prompts you provide. Episodes are written and read by AI, without a human editor checking each one, so they can contain errors, outdated information, or invented detail. Treat them as a listen, not a source of record, and don't rely on them for decisions where accuracy matters.

Accounts

You need to sign in to generate an episode. You must be old enough to use the app under the App Store rating shown on our listing. You're responsible for keeping your sign-in secure and for what happens under your account.

Subscriptions

whilom offers an auto-renewing monthly subscription billed through your Apple account, at the price and monthly episode allowance shown in the app at the time you subscribe. A free trial, where offered, carries its own smaller allowance, also shown in the app before you start it.

Subscriptions are managed and cancelled in your device's Apple subscription settings, not in the app. Deleting your whilom account does not cancel an active subscription — cancel it separately through Apple to stop future billing.

Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's own policies — whilom cannot issue refunds directly. If the subscription price changes, Apple notifies you and, where required, asks you to agree before the new price applies to a renewal.

Acceptable use

whilom declines requests that ask for: explicit sexual content; sexualization of minors; promotion of hatred or violence; targeted harassment of a person or group; or instructions that would help carry out serious harm. We may decline, halt, or remove content that falls into these categories, and may suspend or close accounts that persistently attempt them.

Content

Episodes are generated for your personal listening. Where two people ask for equivalent things, whilom may reuse or serve the same generated audio to each of them rather than generating it twice — this is a matter of how we serve requests efficiently, not a grant of rights in either direction beyond your own personal use of what you receive.

Termination

You may stop using whilom and delete your account at any time from within the app. We may suspend or terminate access to the service, including for breach of the acceptable use section above, or discontinue the service altogether. Where reasonably possible we'll give notice first.

Changes

We may update these terms as the app changes. We'll update the effective date above when we do, and material changes will be flagged in the app. Continuing to use whilom after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.

Liability & warranty disclaimers

whilom is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty that the service or its episodes will be accurate, uninterrupted, or error-free. To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app.

Nothing in these terms excludes any guarantee or right under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Australia, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
